Dewey Square Inspiration

09-24-14 Dewey Square

Last night I stopped by the unveiling of the new mural on the 70-by-76 foot air intake structure in Dewey Square, Boston. It was created by Shinique Smith and I loved what she did to make the space interesting and engaging. It’s an abstract mural with a collection of shapes and textures. It will be a great addition to the hustle and bustle of the area.

There were several artists in the crowd and their outfits help to inspire this drawing. She’s the combination of artsy, fun and edgy. I loved the idea of a looser crop top that shows off her small waist. While I could never pull this off in a million years, I would love to see if on someone else.

Back to School Sales are Here!

Be still my shopaholic heart! Back to school shopping sales are popping up all over the place. I may no longer be in school but there’s something about the start of the school year that gets me excited. These days it’s the generous sales!

Many department stores and boutiques bring down their prices to attract the rush for fall clothing and school supplies. These are great for families because stocking up for a new year can get pricy. On average, families will spend more than $660 on back-to-school shopping according to the National Retail Federation’s annual survey. It’s also a great time to give back with backpack drives and donations.

First Day

08_26_14_First Day

School has started or almost started for many people and I still remember my excitement at each first day. There was the nervous anticipation of what to wear, would I like my teachers and the hope that I would have a friend or two in each class.

This time around, if I was doing a first day, I would wear this outfit. A pink dress with fun jewelry says that she’s fun and approachable. First impressions are key so in addition to a great outfit I would also be prepared with a couple good questions for the teacher. There’s no better way to start off on the right foot!

Anniversary Red

Cliché, but I love roses. I think they are beautiful flowers to mark special occasions. I recently had my anniversary and was given beautiful pink roses. Having roses in my apartment livens up the living area with a sweet scent and fun color.

They photograph beautifully and look wonderful when they are painted, stitched or screen shot onto clothing. If I had this dress in my closet I would have worn it that night!

Love is in the Air

Guilty secret, I LOVE the Bachelorette, Bachelor, Bachelor-anything and I’m there. It’s perfect for those lazy Monday nights when you’re home, girding your loins to tackle the rest of the week. It’s simple, easy to predict but still romantic enough to get me every time.

Does anyone else watch the Bachelorette?

Red, White and Blue

I hope everyone is having a wonderful 4th of July weekend! I traveled to Cape Cod with my family and I’m having a blast. It is the perfect combination of family, delicious food and outside activities. Although today has been filled with indoor festivities due to bad weather. July 4th is one of the biggest holidays for my family because it’s a chance to get the whole family together without the pressure bigger holidays bring.

It’s a chance to relax in comfortable clothes that add a touch of patriotism. Wearing red, white and blue is a great way to get in theme! Many outfits in my suitcase are in those colors. This outfit is great for a casual night with skinny jeans with a touch of flair in the leopard heels.

Graduation Dress

With my little brother graduating from high school I can’t help but wonder what to wear to his graduation. For my middle brother I went with a colorful shift dress but I’m looking to mix it up this time. The dress would need to be light weight to deal with the inevitable heat of the day but with a flattering shape since I know I’ll run into people I haven’t seen since my own high school graduation!

I designed this dress to be made of light fabric, color and a flattering cut. The folds at the side helps to add definition to her waist while the loose skirt skims her hips and thighs. The little green clutch would be perfect to store makeup, an Iphone for pictures along with odds and ends.

Hats off to Adventuring

Who doesn’t love a good summer adventure? There’s something about this girl’s hat and outfit that makes me think of exploring a farmers market, antique fair or just walking along a pier. Activities come to life and once empty outdoor spaces are suddenly bustling with vendors. In particular, I can imagine her wandering around Davis Square in Somerville to stop and listen to the various street musicians performing.
